The Senegalese-American singer, Aliaune Damala Badara Akon, popularly known as Akon has considered himself as the only rapper around who does not smoke, take alcohol, and do drugs.
According to him, pressure by peer group never changed his mind to try any of those.
“I am the only rapper (considered rapper) in the whole music business that don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t do drugs. I was never pressed by peer pressure, never, never did it. You couldn’t make me do what I knew wasn’t right. It just wasn’t going to happen.” –
Akon in another interview, also spoke about signing Lady Gaga and T-Pain saying it was to provide the needed platform for T-pain to get him to where he needed to be.
on signing Lady Gaga & T-Pain: “I was just a platform for T-Pain to get him where he needed to be…Gaga was already on Interscope when I signed my label deal there and I said: ‘Jimmy, I need her for my label.’ It’s the greatest gift he’s ever given me.”
