“…She told me she had not taken her bath or washed her private part because of me” — Member

Members of the House of Mount Zion Ministries in Makurdi, Benue State, have spoken to the press about what they describe as evil, manipulative, and negative experiences allegedly perpetrated by the General Overseer, Anastasia Mwuese Orhugu (Robert), popularly known as Mummy Robert.

According to them, contrary to the belief that Mummy Robert possesses spiritual insight into people’s problems, she allegedly investigates members to determine how much they earn, manipulates people close to them to obtain personal information, and later presents such information as divine revelation.

Some members claim she goes as far as using domestic staff to unknowingly provide information about their employers, warning them not to disclose the interaction to their bosses. The information, they allege, is then used to convince members that it was revealed to her during prayer.

A former member told told our correspondent that she introduced her friend to the ministry. When the friend secured employment, she alleged that Mummy Robert attempted to destroy their friendship.

She disclosed that while they were celebrating her friend’s new job, Mummy Robert allegedly told the friend that she was jealous of her and did everything possible to convince her to distance herself. At the same time, she claimed that Mummy Robert was speaking negatively about the friend to her.

She further alleged that Mummy Robert told her that the prayers she was offering for her well-being were being diverted to her friend through charms allegedly performed by the friend’s mother.

The member further alleged that, Mummy Robert also tried to create division between her and her younger sister by speaking negatively about each to the other.

She disclosed that she began to doubt the credibility of the alleged revelations. Matters escalated when her friend introduced her boyfriend to Mummy Robert. She claimed that following what was said during the meeting, the boyfriend retrieved a car he had earlier bought for her friend.

Another former member, who said the General Overseer turned him into her personal driver and that of her children, recounted his experience. He stated that he got married in 2015 and that his wife repeatedly encouraged him to attend the church, but he initially declined.

According to him, Mummy Robert told his wife that there was more to his refusal to attend the church than met the eye. Eventually, he began attending programmes at the ministry in 2015 and, by 2018, he said he had effectively become her unpaid driver.

“In his words:

‘I got entangled with this woman through my wife in 2015. My wife kept inviting me to the church and I kept refusing. She told my wife there was more to my refusal to fellowship there. Eventually, I started attending programmes and by 2018, she practically turned me into her driver without pay.

‘Before 7 a.m., I would be at her house to drive her children to school and bring them back in the afternoon. She told me someone was going to die around me and that people were trying to kill me, but that I was still alive because I was close to her. She even told me she had not taken her bath or washed her private part for a whole day because of me.’”

The man further alleged that Mummy Robert became angry when he bought a car for his wife. According to him, she told him he did not know that other men were sleeping with his wife.

He also claimed that similar statements were made to his wife.

“She told my wife to leave me, sleep with other men, and get pregnant. She allegedly sent an assistant pastor, identified as Tar Solomon, to secure accommodation for my wife. She told my wife’s brother that my wife was only with me because I had a large penis. She also told my wife that I came from a cursed family and that nothing good could come out of me,” he said.

He added that after discussing the allegations with his wife, they realized what they believed was an attempt to destroy their marriage.

“One day, my wife and I decided to talk about everything. That was when we discovered what this woman was allegedly plotting to destroy our home.

“We went to church seeking salvation, but instead, we experienced hardship. She is out to break homes and exploit people.”

Other former members alleged that certain women make monthly financial contributions specifically for Mummy Robert’s kitchen. Another member claimed that all her actions are allegedly calculated to enrich herself and her children.

According to them, all income earners in the church are required to contribute money monthly for her kitchen. They also alleged that on her birthday, members are expected to contribute ₦100,000 each, separate from the regular monthly contributions.

In Part 2 of this report, a member will allegedly share details regarding the title documents of the land on which the church is built and further claims about how information is obtained from individuals close to targeted members. Another member is expected to speak about alleged advice given to her husband to divorce her and marry another woman.

The former members insist they are not fighting the Christian faith but are seeking to expose individuals they believe are deceiving the public under the guise of serving God. They say their intention is to prevent others from experiencing what they described as traumatic experiences.

Watch out for Part 2.
