Ibrahim Shekarau, the current senator from Kano Central and a former governor of Kano State, has officially defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This occurred just three months after Shekarau left the All Progressives Congress for the NNPP (APC).

Those who formally welcomed Shakarau into the PDP  were Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential contender for 2023, as well as the national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.

Also, Ibrahim Shekarau further stated that on behalf of the NNPP, he had written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw from the Kano Central Senatorial.

Ifeanyi Okowa, the vice presidential candidate for the PDP and governor of Delta State, as well as Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Darius Ishaku, the governors of Sokoto and Taraba States, were also present.

In addition, Senator Walid Jibrin, chairman of the BoT, former Jigawa State governors Saminu Turaki and Sule Lamido, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, governor of Kaduna State, Boni Haruna, and Senator Dino Melaye, campaign spokesperson for Atiku, were present.
