The Kano State Government has stated that all planning for the mass wedding has been finished and that 1,800 couples would be married at sponsored mass weddings on Friday, October 13, 2023, in all 44 local government areas of the state.
Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the state governor, made this announcement after touring every arrangement made at the state Hisbah Board’s facilities to assess the amount of advancement made thus far in relation to the intended mass wedding scheme.
He expressed his satisfaction with the amount of preparation that had been done so far on the ground and praised the Hisbah board and the ministry of health for carrying out their assigned duties, especially after learning that the exercise encompassed the underprivileged and people with disabilities.
The governor also expressed shock at the numerous, deteriorated office buildings that had been unfinished for more than eight years at the Hisbah state headquarters.
“Despite the tremendous contribution the Hisbah Board has made to maintaining social virtues such as marital couples, security, and peace over the past eight years, the Board has not received adequate attention from the previous administration. The board will be given all the attention it need, this administration will make sure,” said governor Abba.
The Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, previously referred to the government’s efforts on the sponsored mass weddings of 1800 couples program as timely and stated that the program will undoubtedly help people, especially during this difficult time, as well as reduce the threat of sexual abuse.
