A suspected armed robber was lynched by a mob in the early hours of Thursday for breaking into a house at number twenty-one, Balewa Crescent, High Level, Makurdi.
According to an eyewitness, Ezekiel Akor, said an unusual movement between five and six a.m. in the deserted house owned by late Linus Ofodile who died two years ago, attracted the attention of some neighbours who quickly raised alarm.
According to Mr Akor, one of the three suspected robbers was caught and beaten to death by a mob, while the two others escaped.
Another eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there had been complaints from some relatives of late Linus Ofodile that unknown persons were carting away items from the compound that used to be a hotel, and the relative had requested them to help safeguard the property.
It was gathered that the corpse was later removed by people suspected to be his relatives.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, said the command responded to a call about the incident but that when the police officers arrived the scene, they did not see any corpse.
