Pele, the Brazilian football legend and three-time World Cup winner has died of a colon cancer at age 82.

He had battle with the cancer situation  following surgery to remove a tumour in September 2021, and had required regular medical treatment.

The legendary footballer  died on Thursday at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.

His official Twitter handle announced his death saying the king Pele has passed on.

It stated: “Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pelé, who peacefully passed away today. Love, love and love, forever.”

His  daughter, Kely Nascimento,  also confirmed the news on Instagram where she said there is to give thanks as their passed on. “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

Pele, is regard the king of soccer and the greatest player of all time who in football history is the only player to win three World Cups  in the 1958, 1962 and 1970 World Cups with Brazil.

He won his first world cup in 1958 as a 17-year-old, netting twice in the final to defeat hosts Sweden.

During his football career, the GOAT scored 757 goals in 831 games during a glittering career from 1957 to 1977, although his long-time club Santos claim his tally was closer to 1,000.
