Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC’s presidential candidate, has stirred up confusion yesterday, Thursday 26, 2023 when he lifted the hand of Senator Barnabas Gemade as though he was the party’s official candidate for governor of the State.
Tinubu did this during his presidential campaign event in Makurdi, Benue State, at the Aper Aku stadium.
In the viral photo, Tinubu raised his Senator Gemades hand on stage to introduce Gemade to the audience.
The confusion stems from the fact that during every APC presidential rally, the governorship candidate is introduced to the crowd; but, at the occasion, Gemade was seen to be presented to party supporters, not Rev. Fr. Hyacinth.
Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia was thought of as the APC governorship candidate for Benue state up until the Appeal Court ruled that the state’s governorship primary poll was invalid and ruled that a new election must be held. However, with the court’s ruling, he may no longer be the candidate.

Due to lawsuits filed in court by other party candidates for governor who thought they were ignored, Alia’s candidacy has generated controversy.
According to the Appeal court ruling in the case between an APC governorship aspirant Professor Terhemba Shija vs Alia and APC, a rerun election will conducted in 11 out of the 23 local government areas of the state to determine the candidate for the party. The affected local government areas are Gboko, Gwer-East, Gwer-West Guma, Katsina-Ala, Logo, Makurdi, Otukpo, Ukum, Tarka and Vandeikya.
