Benue State Government has announced the inauguration of a new security outfit for the State.
The new security outfit is Community Volunteer Guards, established by the State Government.
According to the Media Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom, the official launch of the first batch of the outfit is tomorrow, August 4, 2022, at IBB Square, Makurdi.
The statement reads: “Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom will tomorrow, August 4, 2022, inaugurate the State Community Volunteer Guards (Batch One).
“The passing-out parade of the Community Volunteer Guards which will take place at IBB Square, Makurdi, is to commence at 10 o’clock in the morning.
The Volunteer Guards are drawn from the 23 Local Government Areas of Benue State.”
According to Governor Ortom, the aim of establishing the outfit is to compliment the conventional security outfits which have been overwhelmed.
Meanwhile, last year, Governor Samuel Ortom signed the amended law on Community Volunteer Guards enacted in the year 2000 for the establishment of the security outfit.
The Governor said the security outfit is to complement the conventional security agents considering how they have been overwhelmed by the plethora of security issues in the country.
Five persons each from all the kindreds in the state from the ages of 18 to 50 years are to be recruited as personnel in the Community Volunteer Guards.
