Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health, Hon. Ferguson Onwo has said that the Regulation of Private Veterinary Clinics Amendment bill now before the House is aimed at improving the standard of Veterinary Practitioners in the State.

Hon Onwo stated this at the Public hearing organized by joint Assembly Committee on Health and Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Assembly Complex in Asaba.

The Lawmaker stated that the Executive bill seeks to amend sections 3, 7, 11 and 19 of the principal law as well as creation of four new sections in the proposed law.

Highlighting the essence of the Public hearing stated that the exercise is to gather the inputs of stakeholders in the making of the legal document.

He explained that the bill when passed will give room for professionalism amongst Veterinary practitioners and Pet owners, adding that there was the need to improve standards in the operations of Private Veterinarians in the state.

Onwo Flanked by other members of the committee, noted that all inputs and contribution from stakeholders at the public hearing will be further considered by the committee and a comprehensive report will be presented to the house.

Directors in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ministry of Justice as well as representative of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Delta State Chapter, in their contributions, urged the Lawmakers to consider inputs they made the various sections for amendments, which according to them will further strengthen Veterinary practices in the State.

It will be recalled that the house of Assembly at its sitting on Tuesday 14 May 2024 referred the amendment bill to the joint committee for further Legislative scrutiny.
