The Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has promised 100,000 bags of rice to each of the twenty three local government areas of the state as part of the five billion naira federal government palliative funds to states to cushion the effect of fuel removal.

Governor Alia made this promise on Tuesday, August 22,  during the flag off of the distribution of relief materials to victims of 2022 flood in Makurdi.

According to the Governor’s 100,000 bags of rice to each local government area, the total bags of rice to be distributed would be 2.3 million bags of rice, which includes the already 3,000 bags sent by Federal Government.

He also said he would address differently the cushioning of the impact of subsidy removal by purchasing hundred new buses for the state owned transport company – Benue Links to provide services to the people of the state at a subsidize rate.

Also, to Provide shuttle buses in the three major towns of Makurdi, Gboko, and Otukpo to ease movement within the towns.

Away from the objectives of  the Federal Government  approved five billion naira to each state of the Federation to enable them procure items for distribution to the people to mitigate the hash effect of fuel subsidy removal, the Benue State Governor, said he would use the funds instead to Register WAEC and NECO examinations for graduating students in all government approved secondary schools in the state for the 2023/2024 academic year.
