Lauretta Onochie has been recommended by President Muhammadu Buhari to head the Niger Delta Development Commission’s board of directors (NDDC).
The nomination of 15 additional people to the NDDC board was also made public by Buhari in a letter to Senate President Ahmad Lawan.
Onochie and other NDDC board nominees were put up for confirmation by the Senate at the president’s request.
There are 15 additional candidates for the commission’s board of directors, including Dimgba Erugba (Abia), Ene Wilcox (Akwa Ibom), Pius Odudu (Edo), Gbenga Odegba (Ondo), Anthony Ekene (Imo), and Onyekachi Dimgba. Samuel Ibukun is nominated to serve as the organization’s managing director (Rivers).
Others include Sodique Sani, Tallen Mamma, and Mohammed Kabiru Abubakar (all from Nasarawa).
Before her nomination, she is Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media.
In October 2020, Onochie was nominated by President Muhammadu Buhari for the position of national commissioner of INEC. However, she was not successful with the senate screening as he was disqualify on the ground of partisan politics. She was accused of being a supporter of the All Progressives Congress. But she denied it.

the Niger Delta Development Commission was created in 2000 with its headquarters in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. for now it has not chairman and being ran by the managing director, Engr Emmanuel Audu-Ohwavborua.
