Benue state Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the governorship candidate of the Benue All Progressives Congress, APC, as a snake who has entered politics empty-handed.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Bemgba Iortyom, said this in a statement he signed.
The statement reads: “A scriptural provision readily comes to mind here; “By their fruits you shall know them.” and an adage holds that; “As empty-handed as a snake“.
“Both scriptural provision and adage point like the twin barrels of a shot-gun at suspended priest of the Roman Catholic Church and disputed Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Hon. Hyacinth Alia.
“This is for the reason that as a priest of decades and one who was supposedly into the healing and miracles ministry, he entered the political arena without any visible followership from his primary constituency.
“Since abandoning the pulpit for politics to run for governor, there hasn’t been seen coming out in his support any group of those who were healed or who received a miracle from the former priest who was suspended from his vocation by his superiors for contumacious and rebellious conduct.
“Rather Alia has resorted to inveigling followership mostly from simpletons and the uncritical minded whom he manipulates by posturing to them as a messiah, who should be placed above scrutiny and trusted to work miracles once he becomes governor, just like that.
“But sadly for him, those in that category of the gullible vulnerable to the demagoguery of the sacked priest are far in the minority, and even among those doubts are setting in and the facade of is messianic assumption is shredding as scandalous facts about his failed priestly career come more and more to the fore.
“Added to that is the latent desperation attending his political ambition as is manifesting in his readiness to cut corners and win “by hook or crook”.

“With the passage of time and the attendant wearing off of the hypnotic charm of the supposed priest which was coined in the phrase “Yes Father”, many within his support base are beginning to question how come a priest could so gleefully accept a brazenly rigged primaries and dub same as “free, fair and credible”?
“How could a priest accept to, as being reported, submit his ambition to be governor to the sponsorship and overlordship of hostile groups, which have as a cardinal agenda the repealing of the anti Open Grazing Law which remains the buffer between Benue and land hungry herdsmen?
“How could a priest accept to mount the podium and lead the campaign for the enthronement in Nigeria of a Muslim-Muslim presidency, when the clergy across the country have taken a stand against the injustice and dangers portended by that ticket?
“Those and many more questions will the suspended priest face as the marathon of the 2023 electioneering campaigns wears on, and then will the fact of his empty-handedness manifest all the more glaringly.
“For indeed if Hyacinth Iormem Alia had built any career legacy in priesthood such would have naturally galvanised to his support and he would scant have had need for Fulani herdsmen and their Greek gift of a Trojan Horse in the form of support.”
