A political storm is brewing in Benue State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) League has accused Governor Hyacinth Alia of funding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while actively undermining the APC—his own party.

In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by its National President, John Ogiri, the group alleged that Governor Alia’s loyalty has shifted away from the APC and that he is covertly aligning with opposition figures and structures, particularly within the ADC. They called for his immediate expulsion, citing anti-party activities and gross misconduct.

The APC League pointed to Alia’s glaring absence from the recent APC National Summit at the State House—an event where 21 APC governors publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027. Alia’s failure to attend, or meaningfully participate, was labeled as a strong indication of his detachment from the party’s national leadership.

The statement accused the governor of “systematic avoidance of party organs,” marginalizing the State Executive Committee, refusing to hold meetings, and ignoring reconciliation efforts by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC). “His political spirit has already left the APC, while his physical presence remains a liability,” the group warned.

Most strikingly, the group claimed that Alia’s allies are already embedded in the operations of the ADC, and that the governor is working in tandem with prominent opposition figures, including Senator Gabriel Suswam, to sabotage APC’s structure in the state.

“Rather than dispel these claims, Governor Alia has adopted a diversionary tactic—attacking sources, silencing critics, and resisting internal party dialogue,” the statement added.

The group emphasized that Alia owes his electoral victory to the APC platform and the sacrifices of loyal members, yet has turned his back on the same structure. “The APC is greater than any individual. Governor Alia’s continued sabotage must not be allowed to stand,” it said.

In addition to calling for his expulsion, the APC League urged the NWC to enforce a High Court ruling that reaffirmed Austin Agada as the legitimate APC Chairman in Benue State, crediting Agada with leading the party to major victories in the 2023 general elections.

“Under Agada’s leadership, the APC recorded sweeping wins—two senatorial seats, 10 House of Reps seats, 22 in the State Assembly, and control of the governorship. That kind of loyalty and competence cannot be discarded,” the group argued.

The APC League concluded with a warning: “Failing to act on Governor Alia’s subversive actions threatens not only the unity of the party in Benue but also its credibility nationwide. The time to act is now.”
