The Archbishop of Calabar and Spiritual Leader of God’s Heritage Nation; Archbishop Josef Bassey, has described the Cross River State House of Assembly as a major spiritual gate that holds a key to the realisation of God’s enviable ordinations for the state in particular and Cross Riverians at large. stating that the house has been destined by God Almighty to play significant roles in the actualization of the common destiny of Cross River State.
The Archbishop made these disclosure while on a new year Archbishopric Visit to the Cross River State House of Assembly being a strategic part of his itinerary for the GOD BLESS CROSS RIVER 2025 prophetic campaign.
The spiritual leader emphasized that life is spiritual and for the Assembly to deliver effectively on their duties and continue to co-engineer the prosperity and extraordinary development of the state, she must operate under open heavens, liberated from all forms of satanic siege, manipulations, and controls. He decried a situation where members or staff of the assembly resort to bringing demons and dark spirits into the assembly by way of charms and spells, saying that in the realms of the Spirit, the State house of assembly is an altar of God where laws and rules are made that are binding on the land and her people, stressing the need for the chambers to be observed as a sacred place protected against all forms of spiritual defilements.

He commended the members of the assembly for their outstanding contributions that have helped in the task of repositioning the state and recovering looted, stolen, lost, and subverted high profile assets of the state. Archbishop Bassey called on the Honourable members to
continue to play their assigned legislative roles in the governance process of the State with strength, courage and the highest level of responsibility. Informing them that regardless of how they made it to the assembly, they have been carefully chosen by God to preside over the legislative affairs in the State at this point in the history of our collective existence, thus the need to be conscious that they must all answer to God ultimately and be so guided in all that they do.
Archbishop Josef Bassey, reiterated that, Cross River State occupies a special place in the spiritual configuration of the Nigerian nation, stating without ambiguity that there is a divine mandate and calling upon every Cross Riverian to take the lead and blaise the trail thereby providing solutions to the problems of Nigeria and showing the way out. In his words, ” as we fix cross river state and get her firmly on her leading ways, our nation Nigeria will follow suit.” He expressed delight that the present government of Apostle Sen. Bassey Edet Otu is aware of some of these spiritual realities and therefore revealed his optimism of seeing the glory of the state manifested in every ramifications within no distant time.
The Patriarch of faith called for the unity of all Cross Riverians and the need to forge the Cross River dream which must become the compass for all successive governments and generations of Cross Riverians, both at home and in diaspora. Referencing the existence of the American dream as being pivotal in shaping and guiding the evolution of the American state, classifying same as worthy of emulation. The climax of the visit was the Archbishopric decrees and proclamations of peace and blessings upon the Honourable Speaker, members and staff of assembly.
In his response at the event, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayanbem, expressed happiness at the presence of the Archbishop of Calabar,saying the House felt truly humbled and honored by his visit. Mr Speaker, on behalf of his colleagues, pledged never to derail from their constitutional duty of legislation and contributing to good governance in the State.
The Hon. Speaker paid glowing tributes to the spiritual sagacity, authority and patriotic love the Archbishop has demostrated over the years, and fatherly influence he has had on him and other stakeholders in the state. He said one of the things he struggled with in the past was unforgiveness, but through the spiritual counselling and intervention of the Archbishop he was able to overcome that and become a changed person who now forgives easily, and that has greatly advantaged his leadership. Stating that the 10TH Assembly has been able to record landmark achievements and turn arounds under two years of her tenure.This he owes to the mercies of the almighty and the uncommon support the house has enjoyed from the the executive arm as led by the people’s Gevernor, Apostle Sen. Bassey Edet Otu.
Rt. Hon. Ayangbem said from the inception of his tenure the speaker, he made a solemn pledge to God to give his best to see that the people’s government agenda is actualised, and that no good intention of the Governor or desire of the people, shall be sabotaged by the legislature.
He informed the Archbishop that that singular commitment has continued to deliver democratic dividends to the state and her good people. The speaker mentioned the recent signing into law of the Cross River State Local Government Amendment Law with the many provisions that would redefine governance at the local government level as one of such.

The speaker on behalf of the entire assembly, thanked Archbishop Josef Bassey for the honour, confessing that knowing the graces and divine virtues which the Archbishop petsonifies, he is aware that a major shift has taken place and the assembly has indeed experienced the visitation of God.
