In a bid to bolster security and foster peace within Cross River State, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, led a delegation of members from the 10th Assembly on a courtesy call and familiarization tour to meet with the newly appointed 13 Brigade Commander headquarters of the Nigerian Army, Calabar, Brig. Gen. MO Ibrahim.
During the meeting, Speaker Ayambem reiterated the commitment of Cross River State to maintaining peace and security, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between the state government and security agencies. He expressed gratitude for the Commander’s consistent cooperation in combating crime within the state and assured him of the Assembly’s support.

Recognizing the challenges posed by criminal activities in coastal and riverine areas, Speaker Ayambem urged Brig. Gen. Ibrahim to extend the presence of military personnel to these regions, particularly within the Calabar metropolis. He emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns of the people, stating that the 10th Assembly is dedicated to serving the interests of the people.
In response, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim conveyed his honour at hosting the members of the 10th Assembly, that he sees their visit as a symbol of respect and partnership. He reaffirmed his commitment to reducing crime rates in Calabar and across Cross River State, acknowledging the natural peace enjoyed by the state and its inhabitants.
According to Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Matthew Okache, the Commander assured the delegation that their requests would be prioritized to ensure the safety and security of the state’s residents. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the military and State in achieving lasting peace and stability.
