Breaking: Benue NUJ Factional Chairman suspended

Benue State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has suspended Mr. Vincent Nyinongu from the NUJ indefinitely.

Mr Vincent is a factional chairman of the the union has emergency has been described as unconstitutional and who has refused stepped down foe new elections to be conducted.

Breaking: Benue NUJ Factional Chairman suspended

The NUJ Council announced Vincent suspension in a press release it issued on Friday, 7th October, 2022 and signed by the Secretary NUJ Zone D/ Caretaker Secretary Benue Council, Abdul S. Aji.

According to the union, Vincent violated Article 7 sub 2(v) which forbids members taking the union to court without exhausting all internal measures of resolving issues.

The statement reads: “The State Executive Council (SEC), of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in a meeting held on Friday, 7th October, 2022 in Makurdi suspended indefinitely Mr. Vincent Nyinongu from the NUJ for violating the provisions of the Constitution of the union.

“SEC cited Article 7 sub 2(v), which states that, “a member who resort to legal action against the union without exhausting all internal mechanisms for resolving disputes shall automatically be suspended from the Union.”

“All members of the union and the general public are therefore notified of this development. Members of the public should also note that anyone who engages in any form of transaction with Vincent Nyinongu, in the name of the union does it at his own risk as the NUJ will not be held responsible.

“SEC therefore calls for calm and task all members of the union to be law abiding as they go about performing their professional duties.”
