As the 2023 general elections draw closer, the current House of Representative member for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency and Peoples Democratic Party, candidate for the same position, Hon Benjamin Mzondu and his close rival, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are competitively installing street lights in Makurdi town to woo voters.
Mzondu, who is vying to return to the National Assembly for the second term, defeated Dickson in the 2019 election.
According to a Facebook post by Ernest Tortiv, Mzondu has installed street lights in other parts of Makurdi/Guma constituency and will focus attention on Makurdi town.
“Member representing Makurdi/Guma federal constituency Hon. Mzondu Benjamin Bem has procured another truck load of solar powered light to continue the installation of solar powered street light within Makurdi Town.
“This batch is to be installed in the following locations: Vandeikya street High-level, Konshisha street High-level, Atser Iwen street High-level. (Railway quarters), Opp. Ama motors High-level, 1st gate Fed. Low-cost Estate North Bank, 2nd gate Fed. Low-cost Estate North Bank, Fed. Low-cost Estate North Bank environs, Alh. Jida street North Bank, Awe street Wurukum, Ricemill road Angwan Jukum and environs, SRS junction (Uni-Agric Road) north bank, Tse Ichwa community north bank ,Kanshio Market, Holy family Catholic church road Kanshio,
“Recall that Hon. Mzondu has previously installed solar powered lights in the following locations:
“NASME Barracks road north bank, Ricemill road Ankpa-Wadata, Mobile Street Kanshio, Chombu Atume Crescent Road New GRA, Road safety road New GRA, Apir market square, Apir community secondary school road, Akpehe road, Yelewata community, Adaka community and others”
Meanwhile, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress, APC, for Makurdi/ Guma constituency, has accused Mzondu of copying his moves which he has been doing for the past three years.
Commenting the healthy competition, the spokesperson for the Benue State Labour Party, Kengkeng Ati, commended them but added that whatever the both of them do, the candidate for for the Labour party will win them at the polls..
