Paul Tion Street Community, off Naka Road, Makurdi, Benue State, has organized her maiden carnival to create awareness against social vices, provide assistance and support to the needy and also promote the welfare of the widow in the community.
According to the convener Coach Benard Gwebe, a staff of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi, the aim of Paul Tion Street carnival, is to promote their socio-cultural activities, situational awareness, advocacy against social vices, support to the widows and less privileged in the community.

Coach Gwebe reeled out activities lined up as part of the carnival; cultural dance troupe (Tiv/Igede/Etilo/Idoma), and climax with a Thanksgiving Mass and a dinner gala.
He further expressed a little disappointment on paucity of fund and adequate time for preparation, in which responders called for more publicity and wider consultation to generate funds.
During the presentation to the widows, the Parish Priest of St Paul’s Catholic Mission Tionsha Church, Rev. Father Osbert Viashima admonished the provision of support to the less privileged and by putting smile in the face of the widows to usher in the New year will certainly touch the mind of the Lord
According to Rev Father Osbert, the coming together of the community will serve as a platform for cooperation and collective action to address challenges within the community and promise to support the idea.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mama Mary Yameer appreciated God Almighty for making this day possible and to the organizers for finding her worthy amongst many women suffering the same fate with her. She further prayed for sustainable of the Carnival.
Hon Paul Tion thanked the organizers of the event and said early planning should be taken seriously for next year’s event.
