Thugs on Friday attacked a representative of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the 40th Priestly Anniversary/Church Building and Celebration of Papal Award Of Monsignor for Rev. Monsignor Michael Nyitor Buter at Divine Providence Rectory Vandeikya.
Akume was represented at the event by the Executive Director of Housing, Finance and Accounts Federal Housing Authority, Doctor Matthias Byuan who also served as the Chief Launcher.
According to reports, Byuan was attacked while making his address and announcing his donations for the building of the church.

The report stated that the celebrant introduced Byuan as a former governorship contestant in the 2023 general elections, which made the local government council chairman furious.
The report stated further that Byuan had barely finished his address when violent youths, allegedly under the instructions of the Vandeikya LGA Chairman, advanced towards Byuan and disrupted him.
It was learnt that in the violent situation, Byuan and his entourage were whisked away by security men attached to him as the celebrant was pushed to the ground.
It was also gathered that after Byuan and his entourage escaped, Fr Bature became the next target and sensing danger, he hurriedly ended the programme.
Confirming the incident, the State Publicity Secretary APC Benue State, Daniel Ihomun, in a statement said “The event which was supposed to be a celebration almost ended bloody as hoodlums assembled and brought in by the Caretaker Chairman of Vandeikya Local Government Area, Hon. Dennis Guda launched an expected attack against the Executive Director, Housing, Finance and Accounts, Federal Housing Authority, Doctor Mathias Byuan and the party’s officials present soon as Dr Byuan introduced the All Progressives Congress Chairman in the state, Comr. Austin Agada at the event.
“The ugly incident was, however, averted by the intervention of the Youths and Women in the area who vowed not to allow such a humiliating incident to hold sway in their community.”
