Special Adviser to the Secretary to Government of the Federation, SGF, Terrence Kuanum, says the SGF Senator George Akume, would not be distracted by sponsored attacks on him in carrying out activities that affect the development of the people.
In a statement on Monday, Kuanum described the allegation that the SGF is influencing the appointments of persons from Benue State into federal MDAs without the input of Governor Hyacinth Alia, as waste of time bythe group.
He said the SGF Akume has throughout his public service and political career focused on nothing other than seeking, cultivating and providing empowerment opportunities for the people.
The statement reads: “Certain sponsored attacks which have found their way into the media allege that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, is influencing the appointments of persons from Benue State into federal MDAs without the input of Governor Hyacinth Alia..
“Peddlers of those allegations also claim the SGF has hijacked leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to the exclusion of the governor, even as they cried out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and proclaim Governor Alia as Leader of the party.
“Those allegations in themselves should not be the reason for any reaction in that regard, since they lack the weight to form a casus belli, yet the opportunity avails under the circumstance to advise sponsors of those attacks and their foot soldiers.
“His life philosophy is without a shade of ambiguity egalitarian and welfarist, he, therefore, does not consider people’s empowerment as war booty which should be shared amongst conquerors at the negotiation table.
“It is his unwavering commitment to use the lawful powers of his good offices to attract empowerment and development opportunities to all Nigerians, as he is doing through the appointments being complained about.
“On a rational basis, those sponsored accusers appear not to have been properly briefed by their sponsors to point to what is wrong with giving federal appointments to Benue indigenes across the 3 geopolitical zones of the state.

“Their argument that those appointments are being made without the input of the governor rather raises for them the moral question of how he has dispensed with the numerous appointments available to him in the state.
“Can they satisfactorily say that the governor’s appointments in Benue reflect the broad inclusivity which the federal appointments from the state reflect?
“It will be more profitable for sponsors of those ill advised attacks against the pro peoples disposition of the SGF to deploy their assets to assisting Governor Alia get down to the real business of governance, as time is fast running out.
“Regarding the issue of leadership of the APC in Benue, it isn’t an office, but, in the words of John Clark Maxwell, Leadership is Influence, which comes from input, sacrifice and exemplary conduct.
“In the APC too, Leader of the party at any level isn’t an office enshrined in any statute which may be occupied by fiat, but it is the due regard given to the one who works most by example and being at the front of party building efforts, will naturally be followed by the people.
“This is the reason Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu even while not yet the President was Leader of APC worldwide, and as President is still that Leader.
“SGF Akume in Benue State is Leader of APC not as a Chieftaincy title, but through the gargantuan sacrifices he has made over the years towards building the party from foundation to date, the results of which are among other things winning two governorships, including the incumbent.
“If Governor Alia or anyone desires to be Leader of APC at any level, they must pay the price of sacrifice and commitment to the building of the party, it cannot be by proclamation.
“They must be seen working to strengthen the party by contributing to the well-being of its members, and by delivering the dividends of good governance to the people in line with the manifesto of the party.
“Anyone who will lead APC must not be an agent of crisis and acrimony within the party.
“Those contriving and sponsoring those attacks against SGF Akume over his remarkable pro peoples achievements so far should desist forthwith before they incur the wrath of the people.”
