We watched with shock and disappointment a video in which Dr. Paul Angya, a man who has shown zero capacity in all his endeavours, making derogatory statements against the good people of Masev, Ihyarev, and Nongov, better known as MINDA.
Angya referred to the people of MINDA as “MINDA di Nahan”, and referencing the immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, who is a MINDA son, he said, “Or MINDA di nahan kaa he ijiir la ngu timin akende ningir” (meaning a common MINDA man who served as governor is boasting around town).

In all his life and political misadventure, Paul Angya has never won an election, not even a councillorship seat. He has no track record of any success whatsoever. He should be the last person to disparage Chief Samuel Ortom, a very successful man in every aspect of life, including business, philanthropy, public service and politics.
Angya has a record of failures in public service and politics, having traversed from Labour Party to PDP and now ADC, yet he has no hope of obtaining the governorship ticket of any of the political parties. This is simply because the man lacks the capacity to be governor of the state.
While he served as the Acting Director-General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Angya faced a series of unresolved issues bordering on gross misconduct and incompetence. Angya was suspended at SON until the same Ortom, whom he has chosen to vilify today, intervened as the Chairman of the SON Governing Council and later as Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment, to save Angya’s career and facilitate his emergence as Acting DG of SON.
Angya and the entire Kunav people should be grateful to Chief Ortom, who, as a sitting governor, was the first to zone his party PDP’s governorship ticket to Kunav before APC and other parties followed.
As governor, Ortom’s appointments in Vandeikya remain outstanding. Under his leadership, many Kunav sons and daughters occupied different key positions, including Commissioner, Special Advisers, among others.
Angya’s unguarded statements have further fueled our people’s fears that his people cannot be trusted, as they are prone to biting the very hand that fed them. This is evident in the actions of the current governor, Hyacinth Alia, who has betrayed and fought everyone who helped him become governor. Why would our people trust the likes of Alia and Angya in future elections?
Paul Angya needs to be reminded that the MINDA people boast an enviable history of greatness. Our land has produced leaders and respected figures across society, including a governor, the paramount ruler of the TIV nation, speakers of the State Assembly, ministers, federal representatives, and army generals, all of whom have made significant contributions. Academically, MINDA has flourished as well, yielding professionals of the highest caliber, including medical doctors, engineers, lawyers, senior advocates, professors, and other distinguished scholars.
What has Paul Angya ever accomplished in his life?
The next time he wakes up with a heavy hangover of his failures, Angya should look for something else to talk about and not use Ortom’s name to cover his frustrations!
