On Thursday, suspected armed herders targeted members of the Benue State House of Assembly at Tyomu settlement along the Makurdi-Gboko Road.

Elias Audu, the House Committee Chairman on Information and Orientation, revealed this in a statement released to the public on Friday. Audu clarified that the lawmakers were returning from Katsina-Ala following a public hearing on a bill concerning the establishment of the Benue State Civil Protection Guards.

He said the lawmakers who were attacked included, the Majority Leader and Member for Mbagwa Constituency, Saater Tiseer, Chief Whip and Member for Katsina-Ala West, Bemdoo Ipusu, Samuel Jiji of Logo Constituency, Simon Gabo of Mata Constituency and Cephas Dyako of Konshisha.

Audu said the Speaker of the Assembly, Aondona Dajoh expressed worry over the mode of operation of the attackers, saying it was carefully planned by the armed herders describing them as enemies of the State.

He added that  that the Speaker expressed concern that the attack on members on a day of public hearing on a security Bill is more disturbing, saying it may not be a coincidence and stressed that the House will remain committed in carrying out its legislative assignment in the interest of the State.
