The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially selected ‘The Lekki Headmaster’, a novel by Kabir Alabi, as the designated reading material for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), putting an end to the speculation surrounding the text.
Prior to this announcement, there were various rumors among Nigerians regarding other potential publications that could serve as the official book for the 2025 UTME. However, JAMB clarified the situation on Tuesday through a post on its X handle, confirming ‘The Lekki Headmaster’ as the approved text for the Use of English section in the upcoming examination.
Additionally, the board responsible for overseeing the entrance examination for tertiary institutions assured candidates that information about the registration process for the 2025 UTME and Direct Entry (DE) would be provided shortly.

Meanwhile, JAMB has urged all candidates to stay alert for updates. “Attention prospective 2025 UTME candidates. We would like to inform you that ‘The Lekki Headmaster’ by Kabir Alabi Garba has been approved as the reading text for the Use of English,” JAMB announced on X.
“Further details regarding the UTME/DE registration will be shared soon. Please keep an eye out for updates,” the statement continued.
UTME 2025: JAMB gives January 15 to February 26 registration dates
In the meantime, JAMB has revealed that registration for the UTME will begin on Monday, January 20, and conclude on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. As part of the registration, candidates are required to pay N3,500 for the JAMB form.
Additionally, there are other fees involved, including N700 for registration, N1,500 for examination fees, and N1,500 for the optional Mock-UTME (if taken at privately-owned centres).
