A 55-year-old, Elder Abubakar Bagudu Usman, has rejected the appointment by Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, saying he is too old for the position.
Usman was on September 27, 2022, offered an appointment as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kebbi State.
According to the letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar Yauri, Usman was to resume office on September 27, 2022.
However, he has rejected the appointment saying it should be given to a young man who is capable of delivering. “I firmly believe that there are several young persons capable of taking this appointment more than 55 years.”
Usman further stated other reasons why he rejected the appointment. He said: I didn’t solicit for it. I served in the same capacity 20 years ago from 2002 as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mobilisation and Public Enlightenment, 2002 -2004, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Media and Publicity, 2004 and as Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, 2005 – 2006.

He maintains that he does not need that appointment and he is contented with his current engagements.
“I am not desperately in need of this appointment as I had it at its prime days and my numerous engagements are good enough to sustain me without necessarily blocking the chances of upcoming young, vibrant and energetic youth who are ever ready to take the challenge. For me, Na gode, amma dai ; I am TOO OLD for this.”
