The Benue Arise Network(BAN) has received reliable information of an alleged plan to stage a protest against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr. George Akume in Makurdi the following day.
Our source said Gubernatorial Liason Officers, GLOs, of the Benue State governor were mobilizing people in five buses each local government to protest against the SGF.
According to our source, the Gubernatorial Liason Officers, GLOs, of the governor of Benue State are mobilizing people in five buses per local government to protest against the SGF.
It will be recalled that the same GLOs protested against Senator George Akume in Makurdi last week, demanding for his removal as SGF by President Bola Tinubu.
BAN in a statement signed by its president, Jospeh Igbudu, totally condemned the planned protest against the SGF as it is retrogressive, unpopular and bad publicity for the state, as it portrays us as people who hate their own and also hate development.

Benue Stakeholders Oppose Gov Alia’s Call for Removal of SGF Akume
The statement reads in parts:
“We use this opportunity to call on Governor Alia to call his GLOs to order and also focus on delivering on his campaign promises.
“The people are expecting to see development in the local governments as a result of the huge funds that have accrued to the third tier of government in the state in the last 18 months, not bringing people from the local government areas to protest against an illustrious son of the state.
“Senator George Akume cannot be the problem of Benue people. So, he shouldn’t be the focus of the Alia administration or his appointees.
“BAN also uses this opportunity to call on Governor Alia to curtail the wave of strikes that have hit the state, as our courts are under lock and key over non-implementation of the minimum wage.
This is coming shortly after the strike that recently hit the health sector in the state.”
What Benue needs now is good governance, not wave of strikes over industrial dispute or protests against an illustrious son of the state who has served the state meritoriously in the past and is currently making the state proud in the President Tinubu administration.
