Benue Deputy Governor endorses Social Media Digest Summit @ 5
His Excellency, Sam Ode, mni, the Deputy Governor of Benue state has endorsed Social Media Digest Summit holding from the 4th-6th December, 2024 in Abuja,describing it as a remarkable event.
Barr. Ode applauded the organization when the President/ Convener, Jacob Wuese visited him in Abuja.
Social Media Digest Summit is the biggest social media gathering in Africa,which promotes impactful and positive use of Social Media by users especially young people.
The past four summits over the years had the following themes:
1.Promoting the Positive side of Social Media – 2020
2.Positive use of Social Media in an era of increased Youth unemployment – 2021
3.The role of social media in ensuring credible 2023 General elections in Nigeria – 2022
4. Social Media: a tool for youth development- 2023
5. Social Media: a tool for development in a renewed hope era .

Most Youths today are filled with a variety of media options, from facebook, instagram, twitter, etc apart from the televisions they watch daily. This has come to stay being that it has become the norm of every individual and one is seen as odd not owning a device or a social media account.This summit again will be discussing ways social media can be used as a means for development in a renewed hope era of the federal government of Nigeria, themselves and the world at large causing both social and behavioral changes which could lead to positive growth of the Nation as a whole and the entire earth.
Some of activities billed for the 5th edition include:
i. The annual Chief Sebastine Hon, SAN, ESSAY COMPETITION with the title of each year’s theme as subject matter. This is only open to individuals between Ages 16 – 25 only (exempting the relatives and staff or workers of SMDS)
ii. A detailed contest tagged: MISTER & MISS SMDS 5TH EDITION 2024. Young male and female participants will be selected from interested individuals between 24 – 30 years only, irrespective of their backgrounds. (as long as the standards for selection and winning are met by contestants, as set by the ruling panel of judges).
iii. An AWARD CEREMONY held annually, with winners selected from a collection of disciplines and areas of interest.
iv. PANEL DISCUSSIONS by elite contributors/discussants selected from the Public and Private sector organizations.
v. Report of activities of our Social Media Club for Schools at all levels.
vi. Appeal fund Launch for the setting up of a New Media Hub. A Social Media Hub that will attend to yearnings of Nigerians thereby keeping Nigerians on a right track targeted towards a better social media space.
vii. In preparation to the 3 days event, an International Press conference is billed to hold on the 12th November, 2024 by 2PM at F. C.T.A Social Development Secretariat Cyprian Ekwensi Centre for Arts and Culture (Opposite post office)
viii. Exhibitions and Tour among others.
