A young man, Comr Mike Fortune Iortim, from Gboko has alleged that he was beaten up by security men attached to the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, for  criticism the policies of his administration.

“My kind of politics is devoid of insults and personal attacks. It focuses on discussing ideas and finding solutions to problems in a respectful and constructive manner.

“I started politics in 2007 when my elder brother,Late Hon. Alexander Mungwa Iortim contested to represent the good people of Mbatan council ward in Mbayion, Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State. Since then, I have been participating fully in politics allaining with PDP, AC ,APC and now Labour Party.

“Before serving the Benue State Government as Senior Legislative Aide to Member representing Gboko-East State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Ngohemba Utsaha Agaigbe, I have been privileged to manage different personalities image without insulting or issuing any demeaning statements on any person or group of persons and I cannot start now.

“I believe in promoting unity and understanding among people with different perspectives, rather than creating division and animosity.

“That is why even as a Labour Party Chieftain in Gboko Local Government, I mingle with everybody irrespective of political divides as I have always strive to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration to create positive change and improve the lives of all individuals in society.

“I believe in respectful and constructive dialogue, even when discussing differing opinions. I believe that it is important to listen to others and try to understand their perspectives, even if I may not agree with them. Insulting someone only serves to create division and animosity, and I believe that it is possible to have productive conversations without resorting to personal attacks.

“It is surprising that, on Sunday 19th of May, 2024 at about 5:43pm at Genyi, Yandev Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, I was attacked (beating) by the Security details attached to the Executive Governor of Benue State who alleged I was making a call while the Governor’s convoy was approaching.

“I was rushed to Myom hospital Gboko by family and relatives. After a vigorous treatment, I was discharged from the hospital and it was further alleged that the attack on me was because someone informed the security men that I have been insulting the Governor.

“With keen interest, I inquired to know which platform or channel I have employ to rain insults on the Governor or anyone but no one has been able to point out the medium such insults took place.

“As mentioned above, I have never for once insulted Governor Alia or his government. It still baffles me where this insinuation is coming from.

“Overall, I want to use this opportunity to thank the Honourable Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh for coming through and upsetting my hospital bills.”
