The Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Terrence Kuanum, has stated that the SGF Senator George Akume, wouldn’t be distracted by local hatred from the people of Benue State as he is focused on his national assignment.
The statement is a reaction to a press release by youths from Benue South, where they alleged that the SGF assaulted a top politicians from the zone.
The statement reads:
“We read in a section of the online media a statement credited to a group going under the identity of Idoma youths which sought to disparage the personality of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Distinguished Senator George Akume.
“The group specifically alleged that the SGF publicly poured invectives on a Senior citizen, Rtd. Major General Lawrence Onoja and also made to physically assault him at a recent public function in Abuja.
“Nothing could be further from the truth than this bizarre allegation, as no such incident took place anywhere.
“The SGF is by nature a peaceable, amiable and warm personality thoroughly versed in the etiquettes of decorous conduct befitting of his high status on the Federal Executive Council where he sits as next in hierarchy to the President and Vice President.
“His pedigree as a seasoned bureaucrat who peaked in career attainment both in the state and federal civil services has been evident in the discharge of his duties and functions in office as SGF which has so far been devoid of any blemish.
“It is, therefore, clear to see that this tissue of allegations by the so called Idoma youths is a feeble attempt by his detractors which even on face value is totally lacking in credibility.
“We are aware that the elements who flew the press statement and their sponsors are not speaking for the great Idoma youths, for the real Idoma youths are enjoying a progressively fruitful relationship with the SGF.
“In testament to this is the increasingly rising profile of Benue State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Austin Agada and others who are finding depth and bearing both at the state and federal levels under the wings of Distinguished Senator George Akume.
“We urge the great youths of Benue from across ethnic, religious and political divides to rally round the SGF for the very notorious fact that now is the time for them to find sustainable placement in the national scheme of things under his benevolent and accommodating guidance.
“For the youths who are yet to see this once-in-an-age opportunity offered Benue by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the appointment of Distinguished Senator George Akume as SGF, we call on them to wisen up and shun the divisive antics of politicians who would rather use them for such obnoxious purposes as flying false allegations against leaders who are doing well.

“We must turn our backs on politicians who seek good only for their own children and push our highly resourceful youths towards self destructive ventures such as their statement of false allegations against the SGF.
“Distinguished Senator George Akume is focused on anchoring the administrative bearings of the Tinubu administration to deliver on the arduous task of taking Nigeria through into an era of Renewed Hope, to the pride and benefit of every Benue man, woman and child.”
