Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, Aondona Hycenth Dajoh has survived an assassination attempt as Police authorities arrest two suspects including a local government chairman who are alleged to have planned to eliminate him.
The Police Force Headquarters said investigations showed that the Local government chairman had allegedly reached out to a militia to kill Dajoh.
According to the Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi on Monday, Preliminary investigations revealed that the Local Government Chairman allegedly contracted a militia with the sinister intention of eliminating the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.
It noted that upon receiving credible intelligence regarding the planned assassination, the operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) swiftly swung into action
Adejobi disclosed that both suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry. The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to upholding the safety and security of citizens and public officials.
He added that suspects will face the full weight of the law as he reassured Nigerians of the police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and prevention of crimes at all levels.
There are revelations that other top Benue State government officials and people close to the state governor are part of the assassination plan and have been invited DSS for questioning.

This is the second time Dajoh is escaping assassination. Before becoming speaker, Mr Aondona Dajoh, escaped assassination as member-elect for Gboko-West constituency, when hoodlums were said to have ambushed him while driving home at night.
Though he escaped by the whisker, his vehicle was burnt to ashes.
It was gathered that unknown persons had attacked the member-elect at Gyado Junction in Gboko Local Government Area of the state on Thursday evening.
It was learnt that he abandoned his car and ran for his dear life when the attackers who came in unconfirmed number descended on him.
