When he opened the Regional Stabilization Strategy Meeting of Countries within the Lake Chad Basin on Wednesday in Abuja, President Tinubu made the call.

The President expressed worry that the Lake Chad Basin, which is the main source of livelihood for people living around it, was drying up as a result of the impact of climate change, represented by the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation Engineer Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev.

In order to prevent the lake from going extinct, he emphasized the necessity for member nations and the international community to increase monitoring of water resources and do more research.

He commended the tremendous efforts of the Multinational Joint Taskforce MNJTF for creating a safe and secured environment as well as contributing to the significant reduction in terrorist activities within the Lake Chad Basin.

The President reaffirmed the commitment of Nigeria to work closely with other member states to ensure that what was started in two thousand and eighteen for the development of the basin yielded the expected impact.

There were goodwill messages from delegates across member states and representatives of African Union, ECOWAS, UN Secretary General as well and UK High Commissioner to Nigeria.
