Benue State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has sued for unity from members of the party regarding the rift between Governor Samuel Ortom and the party’s National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu.
The state chapter of the party made this call in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom.
It urged supporters of both camps to stop fanning the ambers of discord but be encouraged to unite for the success of the greater task ahead.
The statement reads: “Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State calls on all well-meaning people to refrain from stocking ambers of discord and divisions over the ongoing rift between the Governor of the state, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom and the National Chairman of our great party, His Excellency, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu
“We urge the people to evince before them the larger picture of the interests of Benue State as a unit of the Nigerian federation which has as its treasured national assets both Governor Ortom and Dr. Ayu.

“In this light Benue PDP enjoins the people to see the rift between the two as a turn on the road to the progress of the state which must be negotiated successfully in the spirit of ‘No victor, No Vanquished’.
“Both the Benue State Governor and the PDP National Chairman represent the very best that our dear Benue has on her side at the table of nation building and strategic placement now and post the 2023 elections, particularly should PDP win the presidency.
“Our great party in Benue, therefore, urges its stakeholders and members to maintain firm focus on this fact as they appraise and approach the matter of the rift between those two great leaders of the party, bearing it in mind that an amicable resolution best serves the party’s interests and those of the state at large.
“We also urge the generality of Benue people to strive towards the enthronement of an order of a ‘College of Leaders’ in the political spectrum under which the accruing gains far outstrip the one under which struggle for individual dominance could only guarantee endless schisms and crisis.
“PDP remains committed to the unity, peace and progress of Benue State and Nigeria at large.”
