The Northern Bridge Builders Forum, led by its Chairman, Senator Joel Danlami Ikenya, today paid a solidarity visit to the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in Abuja. The event also coincided with Prof. Nentawe’s 57th birthday celebration.
In his opening remarks, Senator Ikenya, former Minister of Labour and Productivity, explained that the visit was to congratulate Prof. Nentawe on his election as APC National Chairman. He stated that the forum is confident that, given Nentawe’s excellent track record across various spheres of life, he will justify the confidence reposed in him by the party leadership. He expressed optimism that Nentawe will galvanize the APC, foster unity, and promote inclusiveness.
Acknowledging existing challenges within the party, Ikenya said the forum is convinced that Prof. Nentawe possesses the grace and wisdom to address them effectively. He highlighted that the Northern Bridge Builders Forum has been a major supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid while championing northern political solidarity and inclusiveness. He called for close cooperation between the National Chairman and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume, whom he described as a strong advocate of northern unity.

Speaking at the event, elder statesman and Second Republic Senator, Sen Dr. Jack Tilley-Gyado, OFR, CON, described the occasion as momentous and historic. He noted that Prof. Nentawe, at his age, has been entrusted with the great responsibility of nation-building during challenging times. He recounted that when the APC leadership deliberated on who would succeed Alhaji Umar Ganduje, Nentawe’s name consistently emerged as the unanimous choice.
Senator Gyado emphasized that Nentawe’s elevation was not merely due to his personal brilliance but was “the hand of God” at work. He urged him to use his office to bring relief to Nigerians enduring current economic reforms, which he described as “bitter pills” for future development. He assured Nentawe of the group’s support, encouraged him to consult widely, remain prayerful, and listen to divine guidance.
In her address, Dame Pauline Tallen, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State and immediate past Minister for Women Affairs, described Prof. Nentawe as “a child of destiny.” She explained that the forum was formed to bridge cracks within the APC and to support both President Tinubu and Senator Dr. George Akume. She pledged the group’s loyalty and full support for Nentawe’s leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Mr. Andrew Adama assured the National Chairman of their unwavering support and congratulated him on his appointment.
In his response, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda thanked the Northern Bridge Builders Forum for their solidarity, support, and birthday wishes. Reflecting on his upbringing as the son of a clergyman, he noted that his life experiences across different communities have given him a deep understanding of Nigeria’s diversity.
He commended the unity between Muslim and Christian communities in the North, stressing that northern development depends on continued cooperation. He urged the group to persist in promoting peace, bridge-building, and inclusiveness, while keeping politics away from security issues.
The APC Chairman emphasized the need for northern governors to work towards improving the region’s economy to address insecurity. He encouraged leaders to sensitize youths about opportunities provided by the Tinubu administration, including agricultural intervention funds, resources from the Bank of Industry, and the National Student Loan Scheme (NELFUND).
Calling for unity, Nentawe reminded members that leadership is a burden requiring the wisdom of elders and the energy of youths. He urged the group to continue preaching the “gospel of the APC” across the North and the nation.
In the vote of thanks, His Excellency. Bala James Ngilari, former Executive Governor of Adamawa State, appreciated members for joining in the celebration and reiterated the need for collective prayers and support for the National Chairman.
The event was attended by prominent leaders and Stakeholders across Northern Nigeria who are members of the group.
