Kwande Political Movement Gears Up for 2027 Governorship Race

A socio-political group known as the Movement for the Actualization of Kwande Gubernatorial Ambition (MAKGA) has reaffirmed its commitment to securing the governorship position for the Kwande people in Benue State come 2027.

In a press conference on Thursday in Makurdi, the convener, Leonard Ikyem expressed the group’s unwavering determination to see a Kwande indigene occupy the state’s highest office.

Renewed Hope for Kwande Governorship Aspiration

MAKGA  said as Nigeria prepares for another democratic transition in 2027, it is mobilizing its people to actively participate in the political process and argues that the reasons behind its previous campaign for the governorship seat, which did not materialize in 2023, remain valid and justifiable.

The group noted further that the Kwande intermediate area, which includes Kwande and Ushongo local government areas, has consistently demonstrated a tradition of selfless and dedicated service to the state and believes that a Kwande indigene, equipped with the necessary experience and qualifications, can build upon this legacy and exceed the achievements of former Governor Apollos Aper Aku.

A Call for Unity and Service

The group asserts that its quest for the governorship is driven by a genuine desire to provide unmatched service delivery to the people of Benue. According to MAKGA, its ambition is not a new political endeavor but an ongoing mission that has yet to be fulfilled.

It noted that it has chosen to accomplish its mission, urging the people of Benue to acknowledge the sacrifices and contributions of the Kwande people in various sectors and reward them with an opportunity to lead the state.

Security and Political Stability as Key Priorities

In addressing the security challenges plaguing Benue, MAKGA highlighted Kwande’s historical role in safeguarding the Benue valley from external threats and believes that the state can consolidate past victories and restore peace through strategic leadership.

MAKGA pointed out that the current political divisions and hostilities in Benue signal the need for a unifying force, which they believe Kwande can provide with a promise of political inclusivity and stability, as well as the right leadership formula to address the state’s challenges.

Seeking Support from the Benue Electorate

MAKGA called on the Benue people to support its cause and ensure that the Kwande governorship agenda is realized, adding that it remains steadfast in its belief that Kwande’s time has come and is prepared to deliver quality governance if given the mandate.
