Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor has been honoured with an Award as the “Most Outstanding Steward In Legislative Business, 2024”, by the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Council.
The award. according to the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Churchill Oyovwe, was in recognition of his legislative ingenuity, stewardship and administrative acumen as the Presiding Officer of the State House of Assembly.
Presenting the award to the Speaker who is the Treasurer, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Comrade Oyovwe said that the State NUJ has been impressed with the stability in the State Legislature and the administrative Ingenuity of the Speaker in piloting the affairs of the Assembly since his inauguration barely two years ago.

According to the State NUJ Chairman, the State Assembly under the leadership of Rt Hon Guwor has been committed to ensuring People-oriented legislation and maintaining strong synergy with the Executive arm of government in advancing Delta State.
He noted that the award to Mr Speaker is to encourage him to remain focused and committed to a greater Delta State, even as he commended him for his humane disposition toward the journalism profession in the State, which he shown through the appointment of one of their own, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke as his Chief Press Secretary as well as his robust relationship with Assembly Correspondents in the State.
“We appreciate how you’ve demonstrated control, leadership, and progress in legislative business. This award reflects your efforts in steering the House forward.
“I must also commend the Assembly media team, particularly Mr Nkem Nwaeke, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker for promoting the House’s activities to the public. Without their hard work, many people would not know about the good work happening in the Delta State House of Assembly,” Oyovwe stated.
Receiving the award, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor commended the leadership of the Delta State NUJ for honouring him with the “Most Outstanding Steward In Legislative Business”, award.
Guwor dedicated the award to the people of Warri South-West Constituency whom he said, voted for him to represent them in the State Legislature and his colleagues at the 8th Delta Assembly for electing him as the Speaker of the House.
“This award inspires me to work harder and deliver more for the people. I am grateful to my colleagues and the people of my constituency for giving me the platform”, the Speaker said.
The Speaker, however, used the forum to reiterate his call on the State NUJ to set up machinery that would address the issue of quackery in the profession.
He said the call had become imperative as it would go a long way in sanitizing the profession which he noted is already being bastardized by the activities of quacks who derives delight in unnecessary blackmail.
“Journalism is a noble profession, and we need to ensure that only ethical practices are upheld. I challenge the leadership of NUJ to work to remove quacks who misuse the title of journalist”, Guwor emphasized.

Speaker who was joined by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, Hon. Marylyn Okowa-Daramola, Hon Emeka Osamuta and Hon. Frank Esenwa at the award presentation, commended the professional ingenuity of Assembly correspondents currently covering the State Assembly.
He promised to strengthen collaboration with the State NUJ.
