Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has condoled families of the victims of the boat mishap that claimed five lives
The incident occurred over the weekend along Bennett Island River in Warri South-west local government area of Delta State, involving the Speaker who was unhurt.
Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke, in a statement notes that the Speaker is saddened by the incident and described it as unfortunate.
The statement explains that Speaker was returning to Asaba, enroute Warri after engagement with constituents on the faithful Friday afternoon, November 22, 2024, when the boat he was being ferried almost had a head-on collision with another, resulting to the death of five persons and several others injured.

It indicates that Guwor was still in shock over the incident and can only imagine the pain and grief that the families of the victims must be going through.
According to Nkem, the Speaker thanked God for sparing his life and that of others who survived the mishap as well as the prompt response of the rescue team and the medical personnel who attended to them.
It notes that the Speaker has asked relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the incident, to help forestall future reoccurrence.
The statement adds that Guwor has asked God to grant families of the victims the strength to bear the loss and may the souls of the victims rest in peace.
