Senator Shehu Sani has advised the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to allocate the new Naira notes to the Nigeria Police to share to members of the public since commercial banks are hoarding the new notes.

Sani, the Human Rights Activist, Author, and  PanAfricanist,  gave this advice as a measure to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians in accessing the new notes.

Nigerians have reacted to his statement with some people describing Sani’s comment as a worst scenario that would happen with the Naira policy.

“Police are more corrupt than the banks. CBN should set up locations where people can come and collect new notes directly” said @COLAMAN_WIEN

“What? This is not an option too. The CBN should allocate it to their reliable Agents and send them to different Local Government Areas.” @SameerMashi said.

Meanwhile, the Central Bank Nigeria ordered banks to collect N500 and N1,000 note, but it will be subject to a maximum deposit of 500,000 Naira after generating a ref. code from the CBN website.
