The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Dr George Akume, on Tuesday endorsed the “ONE NIGERIA” Project by THE National Association of Former Elected Local Government Council Chairmen of Nigeria (NALGON Emeritus).
The SGF endorsed the project when he received a NALGON delegation led by the National Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Shaba in his office in Abuja.
Senator Akume appreciated the former local government chairmen for the noble idea which aims at uniting Nigerians and urged officials of NALGON to ensure a successful launch of the project.
He equally appealed for an extension of time to accomodate various interest group for the launch of the project.
Senator Akume urged NALGON to continue to embrace unity and put the interest of the country above their personal interest and further called for prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he continues to embark in programmes and policies in fulfillment of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The SGF also assured the former local government chairmen of the determination of the Tinubu administration to ensure autonomy of local governments, adding that, the President is mindful of the impact it will have on the grassroot where more Nigerians reside.
As a former council chairman, Senator Dr Akume described NALGON as a welcome development and charged NALGON to embrace local government autonomy for the development it will bring at the grassroot and the country in general.
Earlier, the Chairman of NALGON, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Shaba informed the SGF of the forthcoming launch of the “ONE NIGERIA” Project.
Rt. Hon Shaba stated that it was imperative for Nigerians to support the vision of the founding fathers by ensuring the unity of country.
He said NALGON was a non-governmental organization and called on all Nigerians irrespective of their political affiliation to come together and ensure the unity of Nigeria.
Rt. Hon Shaba further called on all former local government chairmen, former councilors and all relevant stakeholders to embrace the One Nigeria Project and appreciated the SGF for granting them audience within a short notice as well as accepting to be the Chairman of the Board of Trustees(BoT) of NALGON.
The NALGON National Chairman was accompanied on the visit by the National Secretary of NALGON, Chief Osita Ogene, the National Treasure of NALGON, Hon. Isaac Mtom, NALGON Director of General Services, Rt. Hon George Allie, the National Financial Secretary, Hon. Ikechukwu Awulonu, NALGON Zonal Chairman, North Central, Hon. Sadiq Abubakar, Hon. Abua Yajir and Hon. Chianson Tartor.
Those who were part of the delegation of the SGF includes; Mr Simon Tyongu(Director SGF), Special Assistant to the SGF, Alister Oduah, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties attached to the SGF, Dr. Torhile Uchi, and the Special Assistant to the SGF on Public Affairs, Hon. Terrence Kuanum.
