On Tuesday, the Government of Governor, Hyacinth Alia, announced that it has cleared land for the construction of a new Governor’s office.
The Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State on Social Media, Asortar James, made the post on his Facebook handle with pictures of the Governor supervising the clearing of site of the for the new Governor’s office project
According to the Governor, the new office will boost the economy of the state and create job opportunities for the youths.
However, Benue people have expressed dissatisfaction over the Governor’s decision with many of them questioning his government’s direction and sincerity to the plight of the welfare of civil servants who are yet to know the fate of their new minimum wage payment.
The post generated a lot of comments some of which are captured below.
Qaave Sunday Qaave “This man has lost his way but his arrogance is still telling him that there’s nothing people can do. I am anxiously waiting to see if the Benue people could have the courage to place him where he belongs come 2027. What’s the need for an ultra modern government house, is he sitting under the sun or in the rain to administer Benue? This extravagance started with the construction of the needless flyovers, we ranted and his slumbering followers came hard on us, I am sure all of them will start seeing what we saw last year. This is absolute nonsense!”
Sam Ikyumen “How will the project improve the economy of Benue state as you have said? Since Akume administration, building a new Gov office has been shifted because of scarce resources. Benue is yet to clear salary arrears and gratuity. Benue is yet to implement 70k minimum wage”
Ukuma Stuffy“The Governor should clear salary arrears and pay minimum wage before embarking on this kind of project Asortar James Asortar”
Moses Williams “This is misplaced priority….it’s High time the Governor turn his Focus on the welfare of the people and security of lives which goes beyond payment of salaries …..We need to be sincere to ourselves”
Barnabas Shayongu “People with Alia are not giving him good advice at all, Our road are bad, no industry, insecurity here and there, no job for benue youths, arrears and pension are pending but our Gov want to build his office when things are not right.”
oryue Emmanuel “Lack of vision and focus”
Kpoughol Donald Dominic “The most confused and directionless government ever in the history Benue State.”
Fan Timbir “New Governor’s office above the hunger and hardship in the state? Wow! That’s nice.”
Meanwhile, the Governor had relocated his office to the renovated state secretariate leaving a befitted office at the Government house. If the Governor goes ahead with the project he will be relocating back to the government house thereby abandoning two well-furnished governor’s offices to a new one.
